Chapter 13 TIME DELAYS IN EPIDEMIC MODELS Modeling and Numerical Considerations

چکیده
Continuous time deterministic epidemic models are traditionally formulated as systems of ordinary differential equations for the numbers of individuals in various disease states, with the sojourn time in a state being exponentially distributed. Time delays are introduced to model constant sojourn times in a state, for example, the infective or immune state. Models then become delay-differential and/or integral equations. For a review of some epidemic models with delay see van den Driessche [228]. More generally, an arbitrarily distributed sojourn time in a state, for example, the infective or immune state, is used by some authors (see [69] and the references therein). When introduced in an explicit way, time delays may change the qualitative behavior of a model; for example, an epidemic model with generalized logistic dynamics can have periodic solutions when the time in the infective stage is constant [112]. Qualitative differences that arise from including time delay in an explicit way in models that include vertical transmission are explored in [38, Chapter 4]. In population biology, a maturation time delay is used to explain observed oscillations [192]. This delay is included in an epidemic model by Cooke, van den Driessche and

Two profitless delays for an SEIRS epidemic disease model with vertical transmission and pulse vaccination
Since the investigation of impulsive delay differential equations is beginning, the literature on delay epidemic models with pulse vaccination is not extensive. In this paper, we propose a new SEIRS epidemic disease model with two profitless delays and vertical transmission, and analyze the dynamics behaviors of the model under pulse vaccination. Using the discrete dynamical system determined b...
متن کاملRobust stability of stochastic fuzzy impulsive recurrent neural networks with\ time-varying delays
In this paper, global robust stability of stochastic impulsive recurrent neural networks with time-varyingdelays which are represented by the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models is considered. A novel Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI)-based stability criterion is obtained by using Lyapunov functional theory to guarantee the asymptotic stability of uncertain fuzzy stochastic impulsive recurrent neural...
متن کاملAIDS Epidemic Modeling With Different Demographic Structures
The most urgent public health problem today is to devise effective strategies to minimize the destruction caused by the AIDS epidemic. Mathematical models based on the underlying transmission mechanisms of the AIDS virus can help the medical/scientific community understand and anticipate its spread in different populations and evaluate the potential effectiveness of different approaches for bri...
متن کاملMathematical modeling, analysis and simulation of Ebola epidemics
Mathematical models are the most important tools in epidemiology to understand previous outbreaks of diseases and to better understand the dynamics of how infections spread through populations. Many existing models closely approximate historical disease patterns. This article investigates the mathematical model of the deadly disease with severe and uncontrollable bleeding, Ebola which is...
متن کاملSugarcane transportation process modeling by time series approach
Sugarcane is one of the severely perishable crops that is used as raw material for white sugar production. Sucrose content of the sugarcane which is of high commercial value decreases in quality due to pre-harvest burning, high ambient temperature, kill-to-mill delays as well as microbial contaminations. Delays in sugarcane transportation are the most important risks which can affect the qualit...
